The Hum You Ignore

The Hum You Ignore

You ignore your lungs until they burn.
You ignore your knees until they ache.
You ignore your heart until it pounds.
You think of health only when you lose it.

A hundred thousand heartbeats — none noticed.
Twenty thousand breaths — none thanked.
Sixty thousand miles of blood arteries — none mapped.
All of it perfect. All of it ignored.

The cavity grows for years — one bite, one nerve, no warning.
The hum you ignore is the only sound your life runs on.
